DCAN 14: Siting and Design of Radio Telecommunication Equipment

Issued by: Department of the Environment
Status: Final
April 2008
This DCAN gives advice on the process of site selection and design of Radio Telecommunication Equipment and illustrates how equipment can be sensitively installed.
It also explains why additional base stations are needed to serve the growth in customer demand and in response to changing technical requirements, including the third generation of mobile phones.
It complements Planning Policy Statement 10 by providing guidance about how the industry can continue to expand its operations in a manner that minimises the visual and environmental impact of equipment and highlights examples of good practice from Northern Ireland and beyond.
