Derry Area Plan 2011
Public Utilities: Land Drainage
Development will not normally be permitted in areas known to be at serious risk from flooding
Rivers Agency is responsible for land drainage and surface run-off and will be consulted on applications for development:
- on land protected by sea embankments;
- on land subject to flooding;
- of a size which would significantly increase surface run-off; and
- which would have drainage implications such as those affecting designated watercourses.
An area of land straddling the Buncrana Road between Coshquin Road and the Glengalliagh Hall estate lies below the level of the Skeoge flood plain. Prospective developers should be aware that this land will require infilling to ensure its proper development which will result in additional costs. Development of areas at risk from flooding outside the City limit will be controlled in accordance with the Department’s rural policies.
