It is considered that an additional 1700 housing units will be required in Ballynahinch over the Plan period to fulfil its role as a local hub as described in the RDS and its strategic role in meeting planned expansion related to the BMA.
Approximately 68 hectares of housing land has been identified under Proposal HOU 2 in Volume 1 of the Plan. Sites included are intended to ensure the efficient use of existing urban capacity lands, the provision of the necessary infrastructure to enable the proper development of the housing lands and choice in the housing market.
Development of a number of key sites will be influenced by the line of the proposed bypass. The alignment and landscaping of the proposed road will be designed to achieve the maximum possible degree of integration in the landscape. The development of the proposed housing lands will integrate with the higher drumlin landscapes.
These lands will be developed in accordance with all prevailing regional planning policy as referred to in the preamble to the housing policies in the Plan and with the relevant policies of the Plan. In addition, key design considerations are provided for each site in accordance with Planning Policy Statement 7 (PPS 7): Quality Residential Environments, which should be taken into account in the preparation of development proposals, to enable the comprehensive development of zoned housing lands.

A maximum yield is provided in accordance with DRD Roads Service access requirements.
