Draft Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 21: Sustainable Development in the Countryside

The Department of Environment has published draft Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 21: Sustainable Development in the Countryside. In tandem with this consultation, an equality impact screening exercise is also being issued for public consultation as an Annex to this document.

These policies should, as indicated in the Ministerial Statement made on 25 November 2008, be accorded substantial weight in the determination of any planning application received after 16 March 2006. The Ministerial Statement also advises that draft PPS 14 and accompanying Ministerial Statement issued by Arlene Foster in October 2007 are withdrawn.

In keeping with our policy on openness, the Department may make responses to this consultation document. At the end of the consultation period the Department will consider all comments received, following which the draft document will be amended if necessary and, subject to Ministerial approval, published in final form.
