Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 16 ‘Tourism’

The Department has published the final version of Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 16 ‘Tourism’. This follows public consultation on the draft document published in November 2010. A summary of consultation responses report has also been produced.
PPS 16 sets out the Department's planning policies for tourism development that are sustainable, beneficial to the local economy and sensitive to the value of our tourism assets. It seeks to manage the provision of sustainable and high quality tourism developments in appropriate locations within the built and natural environment. It embodies the Government's commitment to sustainable development and to the conservation of biodiversity.
