On 28 January 2011 the Department of the Environment published the Malone Conservation Area Draft Boundary Review and Updated Character Appraisal / Design Guide for public consultation.
The Department designated the Malone Conservation Area in August 2000.
The Draft Boundary Review proposes to amend the existing boundary of Malone Conservation Area to include additional areas which are considered to be of special architectural or historic interest, the character of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance.
The proposed boundary variation also excludes areas which are not considered to be of sufficient special architectural or historic interest to warrant continued inclusion within the conservation area.
In addition to providing details of the proposed boundary variation, the Department is also publishing an updated draft Malone Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Design Guide.
The updated Character Appraisal / Design Guide is intended to guide future development and assist the Department in managing change within, and in the setting of, the Conservation Area, to ensure that it conserves or enhances the special character and appearance of Malone. This will provide Supplementary Planning Guidance for Malone Conservation Area.
