Information Leaflet 5: Environmental Impact Assessment
What are the advantages of EIA?

Environmental Impact Assessment should provide a basis for better decision making for the Department and other public bodies with environmental responsibilities. For developers, the process should draw attention at an early stage, to the potential environmental effects of the proposal so the alternatives can be examined or remedial measures incorporated in the designs. Another advantage is that the implications of proposed new development should be thoroughly analysed before a planning application is made, and more comprehensive information provided with the application.
