General Advice: When is Planning Permission Required?
This section gives general advice about the kinds of work for which you need to apply for planning permission and those for which you do not.
If you are in any doubt about whether you need to apply for planning permission you should contact your local area planning office.
The Planning (General Development Order) (NI) 1993. sets out the types of development that are given planning permission through 'permitted development' rights.
If you want to confirm whether any development that you have already carried out or that you propose to carry out is lawful for planning purposes you may apply for a Certificate of Lawful Use or Development.
