Richhill Conservation Area
Location: Co. Armagh
Designation date: 02 February
Designation date: 02 February
Background
|
Richill has a strong visual character created by the way the streets, and in particular the unusually wide Main Street, lead up the hillside to The Square. The prominence of Richill House and St Matthews Church at the top of the hill, signifies the powerful influence of the landlord and the established church in Irish history.
|
Richill may be regarded as an old village surrounded by new housing estates, and the contrast in character and appearance between the old and new is very marked.
