McMaster Street Conservation Area

Location: Belfast
Designation date: 05 July 1994

Background

McMaster Conservation AreaBelfast is a Victorian City with a fine tradition of industrial achievement particularly in shipbuilding, engineering and linen manufacture.  In the rows of terraced housing that clustered around mills and factories the people shared hardships and achievements which fostered close knit communities, each with its own special identity.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the streets of East Belfast where, despite two World Wars and great social and economic upheaval, the community spirit is still strong.
