Hillsbrough has been described as one of the most interesting small towns in Ireland and owes much to its position between the open park lands and lakes about Hillsbrough Castle on the West and about Hillsbrough Fort on the East.

Hillsbourough is an elegant, small town, richer in good buildings of the 18^th and early 19^th centuries than any other town of comparable size. It is a town in which residential and small scale commercial uses co-exist side by side.

The texture of the town comes from the small individual scale and variety of its buildings and of its streets.
