PPS 4 sets out the Department's revised planning policies for economic development uses and indicates how growth associated with such uses can be accommodated and promoted in development plans.
It seeks to facilitate and accommodate economic growth in ways compatiable with social and environmental objectives and sustainable development.

Clarification of PED 7
On 1 September the Environment Minister published a clarification to Policy PED 7 ' The Retention of Zoned Land and Economic Development Uses'.
The purpose of the clarification is to ensure consistency in the approach taken to unzoned land used, or last used, for industrial or storage and distribution use, and how applications for their retention will be considered.
Previously land 'last used' for economic development on unzoned sites could be used for any type of development. Now, if a site is cleared of an economic development, even if it is on unzoned land, it must still be used for economic purposes.
