PPS 4: Industrial Development
Development Control
25. Planning permission is required for industrial buildings and uses, even on land zoned for industrial purposes. However, some small-scale extensions and alterations to industrial buildings, and minor operations on industrial land are, in certain circumstances, exempt from this requirement. The rules governing these exemptions are set out in the Planning (General Development) Order (Northern Ireland) 1993. Furthermore, planning permission is not required for low-key industrial activities which are ancillary to the use of a building for another purpose.
