Development Plans: Environment Appraisal

31. Development plans have a key role to play in achieving the goal of sustainable development and the Department will carry out environmental appraisal of all policies and proposals contained in each of its development plans. This technique will ensue that due regard is given to nature conservation and other environmental issues in the formulation of proposals. To demonstrate that environmental concerns have been fully integrated into the plan-making process, the environment appraisal, together with the countryside assessment, will be published in the plan's technical supplement.
