Strategic Plan Framework: Open Space, Sport and Outdoor Recreation Regional Policy Context

The Regional Development Strategy (RDS) aims to promote the important link between the environment, health and well-being, and places an emphasis on supporting healthy lifestyles and the promotion of health in the community.

The Department published PPS 8: Open Space, Sport and Outdoor Recreation in February 2004. This contains a wide range of policies aimed at the protection of existing open space, the provision of new space in association with new residential development, and policies in relation to specific types of recreation activities.

PPS 7: Quality Residential Developments, requires adequate provision for public and private open space in new residential schemes.
