Introduction

Industry, business and distribution in the Plan area is concentrated in Coleraine town, Aghanloo near Limavady, and to a lesser extent in Ballymoney. Ballycastle has little industrial activity, although a small enterprise centre operates in the town.
The unemployment rate with the Plan Area at the time of the 2001 Census was 4.4%, slightly above the NI average of 4.1 %. Unemployment was close to the Regional rate in Coleraine and Ballymoney Districts, but in Limavady and Moyle Districts was slightly higher.
The 1999 Census of Employment figures for the Plan Area (excluding agriculture) indicates that approximately 15% of the workforce were employed in manufacturing, 12% in construction, and 22% in services. The figures for each Council Area were:
