Settlement Designation

Boleran is located approximately 5 kilometres to the north west of Garvagh, and has developed mainly along Mayboy Road at its junction with Boleran Road. Further development is located outside the settlement at Lower Boleran, however this is some distance from the core of Boleran. Boleran is the larger of the two clusters both in terms of the number of dwellings, and the range of facilities which include a school, church, community hall, and children’s play area. Employment opportunities are, however, limited. Boleran is designated a Hamlet in the Settlement Hierarchy in Volume 1 of the Plan.
Designation BO 01 Settlement Development Limit
A settlement development limit is designated as identified on .
The development limit comprises three parts in recognition of the fact that the hamlet consists of three main clusters that are physically separated. Small scale development opportunities exist within these boundaries. Any development will be required to be in character, in terms of density, height and design, with the existing built form.
