The settlement development limit is designated to take account of land with extant planning permission for housing and sites that have not yet been approved but are at a stage in the planning application process where there is a reasonable expectation that planning approval will be granted.
There are two nodes identified for Lislea. These have been designated in order to protect the character and compact nature of the settlement, as well as taking into consideration locally significant areas of land and the location of the settlement within the Ring of Gullion Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). Development opportunities appropriate to its role and setting are provided within the development limits.

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Lislea is located within the Ring of Gullion AONB as identified on Map No. 3/37 – Lislea. The AONB was designated in 1991 under the Nature Conservation and Amenity Lands Order (Northern Ireland) 1985 in recognition of its exceptional scenic quality.
