Banbridge: Countryside Policy Areas
The boundaries of these policy areas are generally drawn to coincide with physical features on the ground.
Green Belts
The following Green Belts are designated in Banbridge District. Development proposals within the designated Green Belts will be determined in accordance with prevailing regional planning policy.

The Belfast Metropolitan Green Belt covers a large part of Banbridge District and encompasses the towns of Banbridge, Dromore and Gilford, the villages of Kinallen, Lawrencetown, Loughbrickland and Scarva and many of the designated small settlements.
The Green Belt extends into the Mourne Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Rathfriland Green Belt encompasses the town of Rathfriland. The Green Belt extends into Newry and Mourne District (see Designation NC 04 in Volume 3 of the Plan - Newry and Mourne District Proposals).
Countryside Policy Area (CPA)
The following CPA is designated in Banbridge District. Development proposals within the CPA will be determined in accordance with prevailing regional planning policy.
The South Banbridge Countryside Policy Area comprises that area of Banbridge District not covered by the Belfast Metropolitan and Rathfriland Green Belt designations or the Slieve Croob Special Countryside Policy Area. The designation reflects that of the North Newry CPA to the south in Newry and Mourne District (see Designation NC 09 in Volume 3 of the Plan - Newry and Mourne District Proposals).
Special Countryside Policy Area (SCPA)
The following SCPA is designated in Banbridge District. Development proposals within the Special Countryside Policy Area will be determined in accordance with Policy COU 1 in Volume 1 of the Plan.

The central part of the Slieve Croob uplands, around the summit of Slieve Croob and Legananny Mountain is an area of exceptionally high scenic quality.
