District Proposals: Metropolitan Newtownabbey Sites of Local Nature Conservation Importance (SLNCI's)

The following sites MNY 39/01 – MNY 39/09 which lie totally or partially within Metropolitan Newtownabbey are designated as SLNCIs and identified on Map No. 1 – Newtownabbey Countryside, Map No. 2a - Metropolitan Newtownabbey and Map Nos. 2l - 2t – SLNCIs.
Designation MNY 39 Sites of Local Nature Conservation Importance
The following Sites of Local Nature Conservation Importance are designated in the locations identified on Map No. 2a - Metropolitan Newtownabbey and clarification Map Nos. 2l–2t:
MNY 39/01: Brookmount Glen
MNY 39/02: Carnmoney Hill
MNY 39/03: Carnmoney Plug (Geodiversity)
MNY 39/04: Glas-Na-Bradan
MNY 39/05: Glas-Na-Bradan (Geodiversity)
MNY 39/06: O’Neill Road
MNY 39/07: Park Road West
MNY 39/08: Three Mile Water
MNY 39/09: Willowbrook

Sites of Local Nature Conservation Importance (SLNCIs) are designated in Metropolitan Newtownabbey in accordance with Planning Policy Statement 2 Planning and Nature Conservation. Sites are identified on the basis of their flora, fauna or earth science interest. Detailed descriptions of their characteristics are provided in the Countryside Assessment Technical Supplement.
All SLNCIs are also designated as Areas of Constraint on Mineral Development under designation NY 05 of the Plan (See Countryside and Coast section).
Policy for the control of development within SLNCIs is contained in Policy ENV 2 as set out in Part 3, Volume 1 of the Plan
A portion of the M5 and Railway SLNCI as designated in the Belfast District Proposals, Volume 2 of the Plan is located in Newtownabbey Borough Council as identified on Map No. 2u.
