The Belfast Metropolitan Area, BMA and Metropolitan Area:
The Plan Area including the six Council areas of Belfast, Castlereagh, Newtownabbey, North Down, Lisburn and Carrickfergus.
Contiguous Development Zone (CDZ):
The continuous built up area centred on Belfast and which extends in an arc from Jordanstown to Knocknagoney and includes Metropolitan Carrickfergus, Metropolitan Newtownabbey, Belfast City, Metropolitan Lisburn, Metropolitan Castlereagh and Metropolitan North Down.
Metropolitan Development Limit:
A continuous development limit around the Contiguous Development Zone and comprising development limits for Metropolitan:
Carrickfergus
Newtownabbey
Lisburn
Castlereagh
North Down and
Belfast City
Metropolitan Urban Area:
Defined for purposes of allocating the 42,000 dwellings, which form part of the total Housing Growth Indicator to the BMA in the RDS, as the Contiguous Development Zone and the City of Lisburn and Towns of Bangor, Carrickfergus and Hollywood.
Metropolitan Rural Area:
Defined for purposes of allocating the 9,000 dwellings, which form part of the total Housing Growth Indicator to the BMA in the RDS, as those areas lying within The Belfast Metropolitan Area but outside the Metropolitan Urban Area.
Belfast Metropolitan Area/BMA Metropolitan Area*:
Refers to the Metropolitan Area as set out in the REgional Development Strategy.
