Down District: Ballynahinch Open Space
Down District Council provides a range of outdoor recreation facilities throughout Ballynahinch including playing fields and playgrounds.
There are opportunities to add to the existing supply of amenity space by protecting existing areas of open space and river corridors. Down District Council in conjunction with Ballynahinch Regeneration Limited and the Woodland Trust are in the process of developing an amenity area adjacent to Windmill Hill with further proposals for Lough Park. A pedestrian corridor is currently being provided along the Ballynahinch river and it is intended to increase linkages with the Town Centre.

Proposal BH 23 Existing Amenity Open Space and Recreation

The following areas of existing amenity open space and recreation use are designated in accordance with Planning Policy Statement 8 (PPS 8): Open Space, Sport and Outdoor Recreation and are indicated on Map No. 3/003a, Ballynahinch Settlement Map. Active Open Space- Hillfoot Crescent: Playground and Recreation Area
- Windmill Street: Playground
- Windmill Street: Playing Fields & Recreation Area
- Langley Road: Playing Fields
- Langley Road: Playground
- Church Road: Playing Field
- Church Road: Bowling Green
Amenity Open Space- Fairgreen: Recreation Area
- Lough Park: Recreation Area

A number of playing fields are also associated with the schools in the town.

An opportunity exists for the creation of a formal pedestrian access to Windmill Hill from Hilltop between Numbers 14 and 15.
