Ards Borough: Donaghadee Open Space & Recreation

Donaghadee has a wide range of open space and outdoor facilities available for recreation use. These include playing fields, golf course, coastal walkway and the harbour area.
The opportunity exists to add to existing recreation facilities by the provision of walkways and the protection of existing areas of open space not readily available for other uses.
Proposal DE 20 Existing Amenity, Open Space and Recreation
The following areas of existing amenity open space and recreation use are designated in accordance with Planning Policy Statement 8 (PPS 8): Open Space, Sport and Outdoor Recreation and as indicated on Map No. 2/004a, Donaghadee Settlement Map.

Active Open Space

  • Crommelin Park: Playing Fields
  • Northfield Road: Play Area & Playing Fields

Amenity Open Space

  • Pinks Green/Newtownards Road: Open Space
  • Church Lane: Open Space
  • Motte, Motte Entry: Open Space
  • Moat Entry/Shore Street: Open Space
  • East/Moat Street: Open Space
  • Hunt’s Park: Open Space
  • Morey Hill: Open Space
Additionally, there are a number of playing fields associated with the schools in the town.
Proposal DE 21 Proposed Amenity, Open Space and Recreation
The following area of proposed amenity open space and recreation use is designated in accordance with Planning Policy Statement 8 (PPS 8): Open Space, Sport and Outdoor Recreation and as indicated on Map No. 2/004a, Donaghadee Settlement Map:
  • Land around the scheduled monument within DE 11
This site, comprising 2 hectares of land, is proposed for amenity, open space and recreation around the scheduled rath within the DE 11 Housing Zoning. This will provide a substantial open space area around the scheduled monument for amenity, open space and recreation and also the unscheduled monument located to the east of the zoning. This open space will enable the monuments to be appreciated in the true perspective offered by longer-distance views.
