Unauthorised bungalow demolished near Magherafelt

Published on Thu, 31 Jan 2008
A bungalow and double garage built without planning permission near Magherafelt has been demolished as a result of enforcement action by the Ballymena Divisional Planning Office.
The unauthorised buildings at Gorteade Road, between Swatragh and Upperlands, had been the subject of a long-running enforcement case by the DoE Planning Service.
An Enforcement Notice was served on 11 August 2006 requiring the bungalow and garage to be demolished. The developer appealed to the Planning Appeals Commission (PAC), however the appeal was dismissed on 1 July 2007 and the Notice was upheld.
The developer has now demolished the buildings and is in the process of clearing the site as required.
A spokesperson for the Planning Service said:“We welcome the developer's co-operation in demolishing the unauthorised buildings as this has avoided the need to bring the matter before the courts."
