Angela Smith Welcomes Publication Of The Draft Ards And Down Area Plan 2015

Published on Tue, 10 Dec 2002
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Angela Smith, MP, today welcomed the publication of the Draft Ards and Down Area Plan 2015.
The Draft Plan relates to the Ards Borough Council and Down District Council areas. The purpose of the Draft Plan is to inform the general public, statutory authorities, developers and other interested bodies of the policy framework and land use proposals that will be used to guide development decisions within those areas up to 2015, and to seek the public’s views on those proposals.
Angela Smith said: "I am committed to meeting the Programme for Government’s target of providing up-to-date and complete Development Plan coverage of all District Council Areas in Northern Ireland. The publication of the Draft Ards and Down Area Plan marks an important step in this process, and is particularly important for those who live, work and operate businesses in the Ards Borough and Down District Council areas.
"This Draft Plan sets out a range of proposals designed to guide the development of the Ards Borough Council and Down District Council Areas up to 2015, and to ensure the continued economic and social development of those areas. This is the first Draft Plan to be published since the formulation by the Assembly of the Regional Development Strategy, Shaping our Future, in September 2001. It works within the overarching framework of that strategy, and should be read in the context of what that strategy says. It is also the first Draft Plan to be published following the use of the Issues Paper approach.
"I would encourage the people of the Ards Borough Council and Down District Council areas, together with statutory bodies, developers and other interested bodies, to take time to find out what this Draft Plan proposes, to visit one of the public exhibitions which the Planning Service has organised over the next few weeks, and to let the Planning Service have your views on what is proposed before the consultation period finishes on 21 January 2003. This is your chance to influence the future development of the Ards and Down areas. Take that chance and make the most of that opportunity."
