Environment Minister Alex Attwood today announced planning permission for a new cemetery and crematorium to be constructed at Moira.
The development, which will include up to 9,000 burial plots, memorial gardens and landscaped parkland, will be constructed close to the M1 motorway. It will help to meet the need for publicly available burial plots in the Greater Lisburn area and will provide up to 40 years of additional burial capacity.
Comment on this new development Minister Attwood said: There is an indentified need for a facility of this kind in the Lisburn area.
In arriving at my decision, I have given careful consideration to the views of the local community amongst others, however, I am satisfied that the development can be satisfactorily integrated into the surrounding environment without causing undue harm to existing residents.”
When completed, the development will provide a much needed community facility in an accessible and attractive location.
