Craigavon Man Fined
A Craigavon man was today fined £500.00, £14.00 summons costs and £75.00 costs at Newry Magistrates' Court, for unauthorised hardcoring of agricultural lands at Ballymacdermot Road, Newry.
Mr L McGuiness of 12 Lower Newtown Road, Newry pleaded Guilty but the Magistrate imposed a fine because he had carried out the works without permission and had not complied with the Notice. Remedial works to the site will now be carried out under the grant of planning permission.
It is worth noting that the case is an example of landowners/developers carrying out unauthorised works, submitting an application to retain the works and eventually gaining planning approval, in the presumption that Planning Service will not take any action.
Notes to editors:
1. The prosecution was brought under article 72 of The Planning (NI) Order 1991.
