Belfast man fined £800 for removal of protected trees

A Belfast man was fined £800 plus £75 legal costs and £10 court costs at Belfast Magistrates' Court on 11 May 2010 for the unauthorised removal of trees.
Mr Christopher McCauley of Osborne Park, Belfast, pleaded guilty to the removal of the protected trees within the Malone Conservation Area and was fined £200 for each tree removed from 28 Deramore Park, Belfast.
The Planning Service brought the action under Article 66A of the Planning (NI) Order 1991 (as amended) which refers to the preservation of trees in conservation areas.
