Planning (Control of Major-Accident Hazards) Regulations (NI) 2009

This Statutory Rule implements, in relation to planning in Northern Ireland, Article 12 of Directive 96/82/EC on the control of major-accident hazards involving dangerous substances.(“the Seveso II Directive”) as amended by Council Directive 2003/105/EC (“the 2003 Directive”).
The purpose of the Seveso II Directive (as amended) is to prevent major accidents which involve dangerous substances and to limit the consequences of such accidents for people and the environment.
The amendments to the Seveso II Directive are implemented through amendments to Northern Ireland planning legislation as follows:
- The Planning (Development Plans) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1991
- The Planning (Hazardous Substances) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1993
