Published on Tue, 25 Nov 2008 by
The Department of Environment has published draft Planning Policy Statement (PPS) 21: Sustainable Development in the Countryside. In tandem with this consultation, an equality impact screening exercise is also being issued for public consultation as an Annex to this document.
This consultation ended on Tue, 31 Mar 2009 at 5:00pm

These policies should, as indicated in the Ministerial Statement made on 25 November 2008, be accorded substantial weight in the determination of any planning application received after 16 March 2006. The Ministerial Statement also advises that draft PPS 14 and accompanying Ministerial Statement issued by Arlene Foster in October 2007 are withdrawn.
Hard copies of draft PPS 21 will shortly be available from Divisional and Sub-Divisional Planning Offices. The document can also be ordered by telephoning, by text phone, in writing or by e-mail:
By telephone: (028) 9025 7374
By text phone: (028) 9054 0642
In writing: Planning and Environmental Policy Group, 12th Floor River House, 48 High Street, BELFAST, BT1 2AW

Should you require a copy of the policy document in an alternative format, it can be made available on request in large print, disc, Braille, or audio cassette. It may also be made available in Minority languages for those who are not proficient in English.
In keeping with our policy on openness, the Department may make responses to this consultation document. At the end of the consultation period the Department will consider all comments received, following which the draft document will be amended if necessary and, subject to Ministerial approval, published in final form.
