Draft Planning Guidance on Wind Energy Development

This draft Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) should be read in conjunction with draft Planning Policy Statement (PPS 18): Renewable Energy which was published for consultation on the 23rd of November 2007.

The SPG reports the findings of landscape sensitivity and capacity analyses carried out in respect of the 130 Landscape Character Areas identified in the Northern Ireland Landscape Character Assessment 2000, and contains advice to assist in identifying appropriate locations for wind energy development.

The draft Supplementary Planning Guidance can also be obtained by telephoning (028) 90547713, textphone at (028) 90540642 or by writing to the above address. Should you require a copy of the guidance in an alternative form, it can be made available on request in large print, disc, Braille or audiocassette. It may also be available in minority languages for those that are not proficient in the use of English.
In keeping with our policy on openness, the Department may make responses to this consultation document publicly available upon request.
At the end of the consultation period the Department will consider all comments received, following which the draft document will be amended if necessary and, subject to approval, be published in final form.
