Preparing Policies: Consultation Draft
Work commences on a PPS, subject to Ministerial approval on a paper that sets out the scope and content of the forthcoming work. This paper will also highlight links with England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland.
As part of the Modernising Planning Processes Implementation Plan the preparation of a policy statement will involve establishing a working group consisting of representatives of key interest organisations to advise the Department on issues relevant to the preparation of each PPS.
An interdepartmental group is also established to provide a joined up approach across Government Departments to policy making.
Each PPS is subject to a number of screening exercises including Equality Impact, Rural Proofing and Anti-Poverty and Social Exclusion. The Equality Impact screening exercise as a statutory requirement which in addition is subject to public consultation and is normally accompanies the publication of the draft policy document, subject to Ministerial approval.
