The Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations 2012
Environmental Impact Assessment is a method of ensuring that the likely effects of a new development on the environment are fully understood and taken into account before consent is given for the development to proceed.
The Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations are concerned with the implementation in Northern Ireland of Council Directive 85/337/EEC (“the EIA Directive”) on the assessment of the effects of certain public and private developments on the environment as amended by Council Directives 97/11/EC, 2003/35/EC and 2009/31/EC. The European Commission has now brought the 1985 Directive and its three subsequent revisions into one single codified Directive without making changes to existing provisions Codified EIA Directive 2011/92/EU
