Businesses: General Advice

Key Information

It is your responsibility for seeking, or not seeking, planning permission. If required, planning permission should be granted before any work begins.
This section will help you decide if you need to apply for permission.
It is your responsibility as the developer to determine whether the works you wish to carry out require planning permission or whether they benefit from permitted development rights and therefore do not require planning permission.
The Planning (General Development) Order (NI) 1993 sets out the types of development that are given planning permission through 'permitted development' rights.
In the event that planning permission is required, development should not commence until permission has been granted.
If you have any doubts or queries about a particular case you should contact your local area planning office.
