This is the online help system for the user profile forms. You can get help and assistance for the following user profile forms:
The Planning Portal uses the UK Government Gateway for authentication.
To login to the Planning Portal, you must enter the following information on the login page:
- Your Government Gateway user ID
This is a 12 character string made up of letters and numbers, with no spaces. For example: ABC123DEF456. - Your Government Gateway password
This is a string of 8 characters or more, made up of letters and numbers with no spaces.
Once you have entered these details, click on the 'Login' button. The Planning Portal will check these details against the Government Gateway.
- If your details are correct and you are registered on the Planning Portal, you will be logged in to the Planning Portal and redirected to the portal home page.
- If your details are correct, but your are not registered (i.e. this is the first time you have visited the Planning Portal) on the Planning Portal, you will be prompted to register. See below for more information on registration.
- If your details are incorrect, an error message will be displayed and you will be prompted to enter your user ID and password again.
The Planning Portal has a three step registration process as described below:
On this page, you are asked if you are an existing customer of the Planning Service. Existing customers will have received a 10 digit Planning Service ID in the post. For example 123-456-7890.
- If you are an existing Planning Service customer, select 'Yes' and enter your 10 digit Planning Service ID (with or without the dashes) on the page and click the 'Continue to step 2' button. The Planning Portal will verify your Planning Service ID and display your user details on the next page.
- If you are not an existing Planning Service customer, simply select 'No' and click the 'Continue to step 2' button.
On this page you are asked to provide some person information such as your name, contact details and address details. The Planning Portal will use this information to automatically fill in any online application forms (such as planning applications and property certificate requests), so be sure to provide accurate details.
Note that if you are registering as a business or other organisation, please enter the organisation name in the appropriate field.
- If you are an existing Planning Service customer, and provided a valid Planning Service ID in the previous page, the Planning Portal will display your existing profile information held on file at the Planning Service. Please take this opportunity to review your profile information, update it as necessary and then click on the 'Continue to step 3' button to save the changes.
- If you are a new Planning Service customer, please enter as much information as possible and then click on the 'Continue to step 3' button. The Planning Portal will then generate a new 10 digit Planning Service ID for you. Please make a note of this number as you will use it in all communications with the Planning Service.
On this page, the Planning Portal will associate your Planning Portal profile with a Government Gateway account.
- If you do not have an existing Government Gateway account, select 'No', enter a new password of 8 characters or more, confirm the password, and select either an individual (for ordinary members of the public) or organisation (for businesses, agencies, charities etc) account. Click the 'Finish' button to complete your registration.
- If you do have an existing Government Gateway account, select 'Yes' and enter your twelve character Government Gateway user ID and your password, and click the 'Finish' button.
Once complete, the Planning Portal will display a registration summary showing your Government Gateway user ID, your Planning Service ID and your user details. Please print off this page for your records as you will need the Government Gateway user ID to login to the Planning Portal, and you will use the Planning Service ID in all communications with the Planning Service.
You are now ready to login to the Planning Portal.
