    Do I require permission?

You will not require permission to erect a small building or structure LESS THAN 10 CUBIC METRES in volume in your garden, or within the curtilage of your house, such as a shed, greenhouse, aviary or kennel?
However Rules P - T apply

Rule P. The building must only be for domestic use.

Rule Q. The height of the building should not exceed 4 metres, if it has a ridged roof, or 3 metres in any other case.

Rule R. No part of the building shall be beyond any wall of the house which faces a road.

Rule S. The ground area covered (excluding the original dwelling) must not be more than half the total area of the property.

Rule T. The building must not be used  for keeping pigeons.
 

Note 9 - Pigeon lofts need planning permission as does the use of an existing shed for keeping pigeons.
 

You will need permission to erect a building or structure MORE THAN 10 CUBIC  METRES in your garden, or within the curtilage of your house, such as a shed, summer-house, greenhouse, aviary, kennel or swimming pool if you live in a listed building or the building or structure is to be used for keeping pigeons.

Otherwise no, provided you can comply with certain Rules (Note 10 refers).

Note 10 - A building or structure in your garden which is more than 10 cubic metres in volume will be treated as an extension and Rules A - F in Section 1,
“BUILDING AN EXTENSION” will apply if -

i. your house is in a Conservation Area;or,

ii. the building or structure is to be within 5 metres of your house (see Note 3).
Otherwise Rules P - T apply (see Illustration 7).
