The internal alterations to convert a roof space to
provide additional living accommodation do not require permission.
However, installing dormer windows, inserting roof lights or
carrying out other works to alter the roof may need permission (see

Do I need permission
for dormer windows or other roof extensions?
You will not require permission, provided you comply with Rules G - K below

The house is not in a Conservation Area.
Rule H. No part of the roof
extension will project in front of any existing roof slope of the
house which faces onto a road (see Illustration 5).

will be higher than the ridge line of the house.
Rule K. The size of the roof
extension will not be more than -

terrace; or, ii. 25 cubic metres in any other case.
(This allowance is not in addition to, but must be deducted from,
the allowances set out in Section 1.)
You will not require permission, provided the roof light does not project beyond
the plane of any existing roof slope by more than 150 mm (see
