Nuisance High Hedges: Outcome of Consultation

In August 2005 the Department published a consultation document and questionnaire seeking information on the scale and geographical spread of problems with nuisance high hedges in Northern Ireland.  The consultation ended on 26 October 2005 and generated a high level of public interest. A total of 641 responses were received – 95% of these from members of the public.

Given that the consultation exercise provided concrete evidence that the high hedge problem in Northern Ireland is on a par with that in England and Wales, the Environment Minister, Jeff Rooker, intends to bring forward legislation when a slot can be found in the legislative calendar.  However, due to competing priorities, especially the legislation to implement the Review of Public Administration, this is likely to be after 2007.  This will, however, be kept under review.
