Sites of Local Nature Conservation Importance (SLNCIs)

The following sites BE 16/01 – BE 16/02 are designated as SLNCIs as identified on Map No. 3a – Ballyclare and on clarification Map Nos. 3c – 3d – SLNCI.

These Sites of Local Nature Conservation Importance are designated in accordance with PPS 2 Planning and Nature Conservation. They lie within the Settlement Development Limit of Ballyclare.

Sites are identified on the basis of their flora, fauna or earth science interest. Detailed descriptions of their characteristics are provided in the Countryside Assessment Technical Supplement.

All SLNCIs are also designated as Areas of Constraint on Mineral Development under designation NY 05 (See Countryside and Coast Section).

Policy for the control of development within SLNCIs is contained in Policy ENV 2, in Part 3, Volume 1 of the Plan.

Local Landscape Policy Areas (LLPAs)

The following sites BE 17 – BE 20 are designated as LLPAs as identified on Map No. 3a – Ballyclare and on clarification Map No. 3e - Ballyclare Local Landscape Policy Areas.

 These LLPAs lie within and adjoining the Settlement Development Limit of Ballyclare and are considered to be of the greatest amenity value, landscape quality or local significance and should therefore be protected from undesirable or damaging development.

Policy for the control of development in LLPAs is contained in Policy ENV 3 in Part 3, Volume 1 of the Plan.

A small portion of this LLPA lies within Ballyclare Town Centre (See Map No. 3f – Ballyclare Town Centre).
