The portion of the
Metropolitan Development Limit within Castlereagh District
is designated to prevent suburban sprawl and urban
impingement into the open countryside and maintain a
separation between Metropolitan Castlereagh and Carryduff.
The Metropolitan Development Limit relates to
the entire Contiguous Development Zone
(CDZ) and in addition to the portion within Castlereagh
district, extends into the neighbouring council areas of
Belfast, Carrickfergus, Lisburn, Newtownabbey, and North
Down.
