Belfast City Council Houses in Multiple Occupation Subject Plan 2015

Introduction

The Planning Service has published a draft version of the Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) Subject Plan for Belfast City Council Area 2015.

There is growing concern at the increasing number of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) and the concentration of such accommodation in certain parts of Belfast City Council area. Local community groups and the media have highlighted the impact that such accommodation and its associated activity is having on the amenity of these areas.

Aim

The Belfast HMO Plan aims to protect the amenity of areas where multiple occupation is, or is likely to become, concentrated; accommodate the need and demand for multiple occupation, focus HMO development in areas where it can contribute to regeneration and promote appropriate development of purpose built student accommodation.

Responding to this Draft Subject Plan

The Department is now inviting representations, either supporting or objecting to any of the Plan’s Proposals over an eight week period ending on 22nd August 2006.

Representations either supporting or objecting to any of the Plan Proposals must be submitted in writing and must be received not later than 5.00pm on 22 August 2006.

Representations should, where appropriate, be accompanied by an up to date map clearly identifying any lands to which they relate. It should be noted that all representations received will be available for public inspection.
