View Plan Amendment No. 1

In order to reflect changes in the planning context and to address a number of omissions and inaccuracies that have been identified in the draft Belfast Metropolitan Area Plan (BMAP), the Department has published a Plan Amendment (Plan Amendment No. 1) to BMAP [November 2004]. Plan Amendment No. 1 consists of addenda and revisions including additions, changes and deletions to the Plan Proposals.

Plan Amendment No.1 comprises a written statement and accompanying maps and includes the following elements:

• Inclusion of Strategic Road Proposals Post 2015;
  Plan Amendment No. 1 includes additional strategic road schemes which are proposed to be implemented post 2015 as set out below:

  PA 06	New junction on the M2 to the north of Sandyknowes

• Clarification Maps – Road Protection Corridors
  Road Protection Corridors for road schemes and rapid transit schemes proposed in BMAP are included in Plan Amendment No. 1 and these show the actual land take required to facilitate the implementation of the road scheme/rapid transit scheme.
  
  
• Changes to Plan Proposals;
  Plan Proposals are amended to reflect changes in the planning context; to take account of Road/Rapid Transit Proposals including Road/Rapid Transit Protection Corridors. Omissions and inaccuracies have also been addressed in Plan Amendment No.1.

• Reference to Plan Review;
  Plan Amendment No. 1 sets out the timing for a statutory review of the Plan Proposals during the Plan Period.

Representations received relating to Plan Amendment No. 1

The consultation period for Plan Amendment No. 1 ended on the 11th April 2006. A total of 405 representations were received and it is intended that these will be placed on public display in the near future.

Strategic Environmental Assessment

A Strategic Environmental Assessment was carried out in association with Plan Amendment No. 1 and forms a technical supplement to the document.
