Planning Policy Statement 15: Planning and Flood Risk

The Planning Service has published the final version of Planning Policy Statement 15 on Planning and Flood Risk. This follows consultation on the draft document published in December 2004.
PPS 15 sets out the Department’s planning policy to minimise flood risk to people, property and the environment. It embodies the Government’s commitment to sustainable development and the conservation of biodiversity, and adopts a precautionary approach to development that takes account of climate change and supports the wellbeing and safety of people.
Hard copies of the PPS will shortly be available from Divisional Planning Offices. As part of the implementation of Modernising Planning Processes a Summary of Consultation Responses on the draft document has also been produced.
